Back again :)

Remember me? 

I suppose I took a bit of an unplanned vacation from posting recently. I've been working on a pretty big project (which I hope to share with you soon) that has taken up most of my time during the past month or so. 

I do have a little something to share though... done in cut canvas pieces (yes, I am still trying to recycle those old paintings that were never really finished). I can't bring myself to get rid of them but I have to admit I'll be glad to finish with them as the cutting is far more labor-intensive than the paper cuts. 

                   

                   

                   

My goal this month is to be around more regularly. I just don't work as well without a deadline so I'm looking for one - but, in the meantime, I'll just have to try to be more disciplined. ;)

happy thursday

Well, I have to say, I am thoroughly enjoying this week at home. I have been sleeping until 10 every morning which is unheard of for me and taking naps most afternoons. In between all this sleeping I have, in fact, been doing some work. 

Here are a couple of new canvas cuttings... taken from a painting I did for the Square Foot Show at Art Gotham a couple of years ago. I was never satisfied with the three paintings I did - for some reason I was crazy enough to try to finish them for the show while simultaneously planning for my wedding which was a month or so away. Needless to say they were pretty rushed and, in my mind, unfinished. I am much happier with this painting in its current incarnations...                  

                   

                   

                  

I'm having fun doing these but I think, once I run out of paintings, I'll stick with paper. I'm also learning that the color really works better when it's either all light or all dark so that not so many areas disappear into the background. I'm definitely learning something new every day. :)

I'm also working on a large paper piece which I'm hoping to share before the weekend is out.

more recycling :)

Ok, so I'm really getting into this recycling thing. Sometime in the middle of the night I had an idea to recycle some old paintings. I always seem to have a stack of half-finished or complete canvases that just aren't working. The truth is, I've all but retired from canvas painting because I don't really like the texture and prefer the smoothness of working on wood. I never really feel like revisiting these pieces but feel bad about getting rid of them so I thought, I'm doing paper cuts... why not canvas cuts? This one was kind of a quick test. I'm not crazy about it mostly because of the color but hmmm... it could work with some of the others I have lying around. It's really fun to work with these pre-painted surfaces because you don't really know what you're going to get when the cutting is over and you find so many surprise little areas of color.
